Cinco de Mayo: Break out the sombreros and get ready to sling back some margaritas — there are plenty of places to celebrate Cinco de Mayo:

  • Pancito & Lefty: Newly opened Pancito & Lefty is starting the party early at 3 p.m. La Morra Pizzeria and Chef Alex Lira will be cooking special dishes for the feast.
  • 492: Head out to the patio and enjoy a $4.92 Happy Hour from 5 to 7 p.m. with free tastings of Hornitos tequilas. Be sure to order one of the special dishes prepared by chef Josh Keeler for the celebration.
  • Home Team BBQ: Celebrate late night at Home Team BBQ. Starting at 9 p.m., there’ll be food specials, frozen Diablos, Mezcal cocktails, and more.
  • Juan Luis: For their Grand Opening, Juan Luis (John Lewis’ new Tex-Mex inspired spot inside the Workshop) is offering 99-cent margaritas all day!

Kentucky Derby: Keep the weekend celebrations going with Kentucky Derby parties at The Alley, The Brick, The Gentry, Prohibition, and Home Team BBQ.

Mike’s Menudo Brunch: Looking for a way to cure the Cinco de Mayo hangover? Head to Le Farfalle on May 6 and 7 and enjoy chef Michael Toscano’s Mike’s Menudo Brunch. This Tex-Mex inspired menu will include breakfast tacos, huevos rancheros, fajitas, and more.

Jimmy Jam: Jimmy Buffett fans will converge on Daniel Island in droves on May 11 for the popular musician’s concert. The Islander is hosting a pre-show party starting at 3 p.m. — called “Jimmy Jam” — featuring live music (obviously, get the “Cheeseburger in Paradise”), $3 Landshark beers, margaritas, and giveaways.

Rosé Tasting and Pop-Up Shop: Enjoy a special Rosé Tasting and Pop-Up Shop by Edmund’s Oast Exchange on May 13 at The Bower at Edmund’s Oast. 167 Raw will be onsite and the rosé tastings are free!

Harvest Dinner: Green Heart’s annual Harvest Dinner is on May 18 at the urban farm at Mitchell Elementary School. The dinner, a fundraiser for Green Heart’s farm-to-school programs, is a potluck-style barbeque featuring food sourced from local farms and Green Heart gardens. Tickets are $20 and free for children under 12.

Sweet Corn Cook-Off: OHM Radio will host their annual Sweet Corn Cook Off on May 21 at the Royal American. This year, local musicians will be paired with local restaurants to create a corn dish. Restaurants include the Park Café, Taco Boy, 492, the Obstinate Daughter, Verde, and the Royal American. Tickets are $20 and kids under 12 are free.

Farwell to La Morra: Let the mourning begin. Charleston loses a culinary gem as La Morra heads out west. Lewis Barbecue is hosting the grand finale event on May 28 that will feature local chefs including John Lewis, Mike Lata, Michael Toscano, and Shuai Wang preparing collaboration pizzas for the send-off.
